PRIORITIES ZONES
The Public Works Department maintains streets in the City of De Soto
during the winter months. Snow removal and anti-icing is provided by
Public Works' personnel. The City is separated into five (5) zones and streets are prioritized to ensure that main
streets are cleared as soon as possible.
The department will operate 5 snow plow trucks having one dedicated to
the priority streets below, this will help keep these streets clear as
possible for emergency vehicles to travel in the primary zones through
our city.
The established priorities streets are:
- Main Street and Miller to Rock Road
- Main Street and Amvets Drive (to) Highway 21
- Main Street and Boyd (to) Highway 21
- Main Street and Clarke (to) Highway 21
- Main Street and Hwy 110 (to) Vineland School Road to End of
Villa Drive
SNOW REMOVAL PROCEDURES
When snow or ice is forecasted and action is necessary, Public Works
personnel will, as appropriate, pre-treat priority streets, and bridges
with salt and liquid calcium chloride . The solution is applied during
low traffic times whenever possible; however, due to changing weather
forecast and timing of storm, it may be applied at peak traffic times.
Public Works personnel will begin plowing streets once accumulation of
snow and/or ice has occurred, usually one inch. Snow will be plowed in a
manner so as to minimize any traffic obstruction. Plowing continues on
primary and secondary streets until all snowfall has stopped. After
snowfall stops and the primary streets are clear, plows continue with
residential streets and alleys until all are cleared.
