Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations There are
many chemicals and by-products that must not be disposed of in your
sewer drains, such products can cause damage to our sewer system, homes,
businesses, and wastewater treatment plant.
Please use caution when disposing any products in your sewer line. Below
is some helpful information for you to learn and know:
- Contact your local wastewater treatment facility, public works
director or building inspector to verify which chemicals can be put down
your drain.
- It is illegal to dispose of any pollutant into any sewer drain,
drainage ditch, stream or the ground.
- It is Illegal to put anything other than domestic wastewater into
our sewer mains. Do not put biodiesel or chemical byproducts into our
sewer system.
- If you produce Biodiesel contact City Hall for our Building
Inspector and Public Works Director to perform and inspection for your
safety, and that of others, in addition, you must contact DNR, EPA for
permits, and your biodiesel must meet the ASTM standards and pay taxes
on your product.
- For information on how to dispose of chemicals, or products contact
City Hall our your local Health Department, Department of Natural
Resources, Environmental Protection Agency, Building Inspector, or
Public Works Director in the City.
- If you intend to manufacture biodiesel for your own use, please
contact the following agencies for possible permit requirements:
Environmental Protection Agency, National Biodiesel Board,
City Fire Chief, Public Works Director, Building Inspector, or our local
Health Department. These agencies will determine if there are
regulations on storage tanks, as well as the type, location, quantity
and concentration of chemicals stored on a property taxes to be paid to
the Federal Government. Depending on the
above factors there are certain fire permits that may be required.
- Please understand that if you make biodiesel, the Crude Glycerin
which is the byproduct must be disposed of properly. People who make
biodiesel must understand that improper disposal in sewer systems,
lakes, streams and our landfills can and has caused critical damage to
fish and environment.
